If you work with the government of Sint Maarten, with an institution affiliated with the government and a number of education institution, you take part in the pension plan of APS.
Can I decide myself to accrue pension elsewhere?
That is not possible if you work with an employer that is affiliated with APS. There is a legal obligation to take part in the pension plan of APS.
How much pension will I receive in the future?

How do I know if my pension savings are safe with APS?
As a pension fund, APS is separate from the government. Therefore, financial setbacks of the government cannot be covered with pension capital of APS. APS has a board with representatives from the employers and the trade unions and it has an independent chairperson. APS is supervised by the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten and the National Audit Office on behalf of the Ministry of Finance.
If I switch to another government institution, will I continue to accrue pension with APS?
If you accrue pension with APS now and your new employer is also affiliated with APS, you will indeed continue to accrue pension with APS. Are you going to work for an institution that is not affiliated with APS? Will I continue to receive my pension if I no longer live in Sint Maarten?
You must notify APS of your new address. If you live abroad, you must submit an ‘Attestatie de Vita’ (life certificate) twice a year – in the months of June and December – in order to continue to receive your pension payments. You can apply for this document with the population register. You do not have to submit such a document if you live in Sint Maarten.
Can I receive my pension in a foreign bank account?
Yes, via an account with a local bank. If you live in the Netherlands, you need an ING Bank account for this.
How can I apply for my pension?

On which day of the month is the pension paid?
Your pension is paid on the 20th day of the month. If this is a weekend day or a holiday, you receive it on the next working day. You can check the date here.
When do I have to submit my Attestatie de Vita (life certificate)?
If you live abroad, you have to submit your Attestatie de Vita in June and December.
Can I have my total pension paid if I move to another place?
You can have your total pension paid if you comply with the following two conditions:
– You accrued pension with APS for a period shorter than 5 years
– You move outside of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
You need permission from your husband/wife.
Is it possible to retire earlier?
As of 1 July 2020, the retirement age has been increased from 62 to 65. You can choose to retire at 62 any way. There are also participants who can retire at the age of 55 or 60 based on older pension regulations.
